There are some people who just don't fit in a classroom. Four years of college is not for them. These folks may enjoy working with their hands, work outdoors, or work in mechanical situations. Many of the people involved in the new Green Technology (solar, wind, etc) hold technical degrees. The people who fix your car, service your appliances, and care for parks and gardens have learned their trade in a technical school, or a college that includes technical education as well.
"Techies", as some like to be called, make decent to excellent salaries. Techies buy houses, cars, raise families, and add considerably to the Gross National Product. Our standard of life is better because of Techies. As the years go on, there will be many more technical jobs that we cannot yet imagine.
